Andrea Mitchell
Andrea Mitchell (born in New York City) is an American television journalist, commentator and anchor for NBC News based at Washington D.C. Mitchell holds a bachelor's degree in English language from the University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell was employed as a reporter for KYW Radio and TV Philadelphia in 1967. She joined the CBS station WDVM-TV (then WTOP) in Washington DC in 1976. In Washington, she was appointed general reporter by NBC News two year later. The year 1981 saw her begin reporting on the White House and became chief Congress correspondent in 1988. Mitchell was named the chief White House correspondent by NBC News, in 1992. Mitchell hosted and was a panelist at the TV show Meet the Press. She served as a panelist in the 1988 presidential debates between George Bush and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the wife of Alan Greenspan who was former chairman at Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell received the Goldsmith Career Award in 2005 by the John F. Kennedy School of Government to honor her achievements in journalism. In 2004, in 2004, the Radio-Television News Directors Association gave Mitchell the Leonard Zeidenberg Award in recognition of her contribution to defending First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell started covering for the White House in 1981-1988, and during the presidency of Ronald Reagan. Mitchell has reported on a variety of notable news stories throughout time, including fiscal reform, the budget as well as an investigation into the Iran Contra saga. Mitchell traveled frequently together with Reagan as well as Mikhail Gorbachev to world summits.
